
Multi-Million Dollar Renovation Makes Resort Stand Out as Premier Resort Destination in St. Thomas
CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS, April 19, 2011 – After a multi-million dollar renovation, the historic Bluebeard’s Castle resort hosted its grand reopening April 12th to showcase the property and the numerous updates that have been made. Bluebeard’s Castle is a historic property dating back to the 1600s. It is located on Bluebeard’s Hill and has spectacular views of the harbor and city below. Bluebeard’s Castle is a timeshare property and is professionally managed by SPM Resorts, Inc. of Myrtle Beach, S.C.
After two years of renovations, the collective boards of directors and SPM Resorts management are excited to share the newly renovated property with the Island community, the owners and many guests that come to the Castle.
Renovations, completed by Kraus-Manning, Inc., included an overhaul of the lobby complete with new furniture, fixtures, fresh paint and check-in pods. The rooms included as part of the renovations received new kitchens, bathrooms, furniture, accessories, flat panel televisions, bedding and more. All rooms on property received state-of-the-art RFID Ving Card door locks and in-room safes to further enhance guest security. The courtyard areas have been newly landscaped and new outdoor furniture installed.
Grand reopening festivities included a private reception on April 12th for the associations’ boards of directors, construction and design teams, Governor John P. de Jongh and other Island dignitaries. Governor de Jongh presided over the ribbon cutting ceremony. Cultural dancers greeted the guests upon arrival, and David Bornn, Esq., President of Downtown Revitalization, Inc., served as Master of Ceremonies. Felipe Ayala, Chairman of the Historic Preservation Commission of St. Thomas and Mary Gleason, member of the U.S.V.I. Hotel and Tourism Association and Tommy Star Award Winner, provided a history of Bluebeard’s Castle, and the Commissioner on Tourism, Beverly Nicholson, spoke about tourism in St. Thomas. A reception following the ribbon cutting was held in the newly-renovated lobby.
To share the newly renovated resort with the Island community, U.S. Virgin Islands Hotel and Tourism Association hosted their monthly membership mixer at the property on April 13th.
